Zoe Peetermans and Sam Butterworth Crowned 2024 British Boulder Champions
Zoe Peetermans and Sam Butterworth claimed the 2024 British Boulder Champions titles on Sunday 25th August at Last Sun Dance in Leeds.
Eight technical, dynamic, and challenging boulders were meticulously crafted by a talented team of route setters, led by Chief setter Dave Barran’s, a previous British Boulder Champion himself. These problems provided an incredible showcase of coordination, determination, problem-solving from the final 12 competitors.
After finishing fourth in 2022, Zoe Peetermans entered the 2024 British Boulder Championships with one goal: to win. With a flash on F1, the Leeds-based athlete started the finals round confidently and went on to top the women’s leaderboard, securing 3 tops and 4 zones.
Thea Cameron improved on her fifth-place finish from 2023, joining Peetermans on the podium with a silver medal. Scotland’s Louise Flockhart completed the podium, retaining her bronze from the previous year.
In the men’s competition, Sam Butterworth topped the podium, improving last-year’s silver medal finish. Butterworth dominated the semi-final round and continued to demonstrate his strength throughout the finals. Aiden Dunne, who is no stranger to the finals at the British Boulder Championships, bounced back from a fourth-place finish in 2023 to take the silver this year. Elias Bignold secured the bronze.
During the sold-out Sunday session at the Last Sun Dance, 16-year-old Ember Mulhearn, the youngest finalist, came close to the podium with a fourth-place finish. Also competing in their first senior British Boulder Championships were 17-year-old Izzy Bridgens and 20-year-old Joe Xiberras, who finished sixth and fifth, respectively.
The event was support by a 16-strong team of volunteering who helped across judging, scoring and ticketing.
A special thank you to our partners: Last Sun Dance, Revive Active, Serious Climbing Distribution, and Secur-it.
