Following the adoption of a new constitution at the 2018 AGM, the BMC has updated its guidance on responsibilities delegated to volunteers and the circumstances under which matters should be referred to the Board of Directors for consideration or approval.
Volunteers are highly valued within the BMC, and the importance of improving support for the BMC’s volunteer network is readily acknowledged and forms part of the work of the Organisational Development Group, with the BMC President playing a key role in this aspect of work

Volunteers and GDPR
All volunteers supporting the BMC at BMC events or who sit on BMC committees need to ensure that any personal data that they have access to is dealt with according to GDPR (General Data Protection Act) rules.

Volunteer Recognition Awards
There are several Recognition Awards that the BMC presents to volunteers each year. Recipients must be nominated by BMC members, the nominations are considered by a panel, and the awards announced at the BMC AGM.

Nominate a volunteer for an award
For those volunteers attending certain BMC activities, such as specialist committee meetings or when invited to specific events, then expenses can be paid. Claims should be submitted promptly and be supported by relevant receipts.
