As part of our collective mission to protect the places we love to climb, walk and explore, Cotswold Outdoor – the BMC’s Official Outdoor Retailer – has donated £21,040.91 to The Climate Project, supporting vital conservation work through the BMC’s Access & Conservation Trust.

Thanks to the generosity of Cotswold Outdoor customers through a Pennies micro-donation campaign from April to June 2025, every small round up amount at the till has added up to make a big difference, raising a total of £21,040.91 towards tackling the climate and biodiversity crisis.

BMC Head of Commercial, Lee Kenny, says, "The BMC is very proud that Cotswold Outdoor continually support our Access and Conservation Trust work and have a united cause to actively protect the places we all love, whilst also helping everyone to access the outdoors in a responsible way.

The Climate Project is a core part of encouraging our members and partners to give something back and help restore some of our most sensitive landscapes, by supporting projects that help increase biodiversity and enhance climate resilience. Moorland and blanket bog restoration alongside the re-planting of seagrass meadows has the potential to lock up thousands of tonnes of carbon.”

What is The Climate Project?

The Climate Project, from the BMC's Access & Conservation Trust, is a collection of nature-based solutions and resources to fight the climate crisis. It includes our long-term commitment to planting sphagnum with Moors for the Future Partnership as part of their peatland restoration programme, and our latest addition - planting seagrass with Project Seagrass. BMC Head of Access & Environment, Dr. Cath Flitcroft, says, “We welcome this generous donation from Cotswold Outdoor’s customers and it’s fantastic to partner with an outdoor retailer that actively gives back to the landscapes we love to explore.

“We also respect the care Cotswold Outdoor take to promote recycled, more eco-friendly or ethically-sourced kit; they offer a repair and care service for key items and you can recycle your old or unwanted gear with them in store. If you want to learn more about this side of Cotswold Outdoor, we highly recommend a read of their sustainability report here.”

Lucy Sutton, Marketing Director at Cotswold Outdoor says, “Here at Cotswold Outdoor, we believe retailers have a responsibility to support campaigns that protect the environment and we are happy to support The Climate Project through our partnership with the BMC. We look forward to finding out what this donation will be used for.

“We have seen first-hand how The Climate Project funds might be used - back in March we sent seven staff members to spend the day planting sphagnum moss to help restore the moorland in the Upper Goyt Valley in the Peak District. And last time we ran the Pennies at the til appeal in 2023 we raised over £35,000 for the BMC Access & Conservation Trust’s Mend Our Mountains campaign to repair badly eroded footpaths across the UK.”
