BMC North West Area
About the North West Area
The North West area is chock-full with glorious crags spanning as far north as Trowbarrow and Warton, just south of Cumbria, down to Pex Hill in Merseyside and the "proper" Lancashire quarries of Wilton and Egerton. At our meetings we try to focus on practical issues that matter to local climbers; so if you have opinions or ideas about any aspect of climbing in the North West then this is the place to come and meet others- who may or may not agree with you. The NW area has been very active in organizing crag maintenance and clean ups and in pursuing better access arrangements. We are very keen to encourage and support people who want to get things done that actually make a difference.
Upcoming North West area meetings
Area Meetings are run by volunteers and provide an opportunity for you to discuss issues and influence decisions affecting climbers and walkers locally and nationally, and to meet like-minded people and enjoy a sociable night out (or 'in' on Zoom). Current North West Volunteer Roles Available
Would you like to get more involved in the work of the BMC? If you are interested in a volunteer role please come along to the relevant Area Meeting and speak with the current Chair or Secretary. If you are unable to attend please email volunteering@thebmc.co.uk and ask to be put in contact with your local area.
Area volunteers undertake vital roles in the democratic structure of the BMC and the work we do on behalf of members and the wider climbing, hill walking and mountaineering community. Each area holds an AGM, at which elections for a range of volunteer roles are held, and outside of these meetings, members can be co-opted into roles.
