Do you climb regularly indoors? Find out all the benefits indoor climbers can take advantage of when they become members of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), including a free indoor session!
The BMC is the representative body for climbing in England and Wales, but it's not just for mountaineers and outdoor adventurers. Members of the BMC get loads of benefits that we can all take advantage of, even if we're mainly indoor heroes!
Liability and Personal Accident Insurance
By being a member of the BMC, you're immediately insured for:
-
£15m worldwide combined liability insurance. If you injure somebody when climbing (e.g. falling on someone at an climbing centre), then you will be insured. For members who are resident in the Republic of Ireland, the total limit for Public Liability is £10m.
-
£10,000 personal accident insurance. If you get injured from climbing (e.g. someone falling on you at a climbing centre), then you will be insured.
Discounts and freebies
You can make back the cost of your membership when purchasing sports equipment at 100s of retail outlets. If you're a big spender, then you could even make it back in a single purchase!
-
Retail discounts for sports and outdoor gear in many shops across the UK.
-
Four copies of Summit Magazine per year delivered to your door.
-
Many travel and accommodation discounts in climbing hotspots across the UK and Europe.
-
Tons of other discounts can be found here.
Protecting our members' interests
Tempted yet? Well we haven't told you about the work we do to protect the passions and hobbies of our members, including: protecting the countryside, promoting climbing (indoors and outdoors), and rebuilding the environment. As a BMC member, here is just some of the work you will be supporting:
-
You will be supporting the BMC’s work for indoor climbing; helping develop best practice and safety guidelines to ensure that indoor climbers have a safe experience wherever they climb indoors.
-
Do you climb outdoors too? You will be supporting vital access work to crags and climbing areas. The BMC’s access team works with land owners to secure access, help fund crag management and purchase crags that would otherwise be off limits for climbers.
-
You will be supporting all levels of indoor climbing from grassroots engagement to grow the sport, to supporting youth development squads and the GB Climbing Team. Your support will help the UK’s Olympic climbing chances!
-
Your membership will help grow the voice for climbers in the England and Wales. This means more money from Sport England to support more grassroots projects and increases our influence to effect legislation in parliament for causes that affect climbing.
Free climbing session!
We assume you’re already so convinced you’ve already got your bank details ready and you’re about to sign up right now… but wait! You could also get a free climbing session too! We’re running a trial at Boulder Central, an indoor bouldering centre in the West Midlands. If you sign up to the BMC at the centre you will also get a free climbing session, immediately redeemable as you sign up.
This offer is available to new BMC members only and other centre terms and conditions may apply. This is a trial scheme but other climbing centres near you may offer this deal at some point in the future.
For more information about the free climbing session deal, please contact Boulder Central.
We want to say a big thanks to every BMC member who continues to support us through the Coronavirus crisis.
From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t do it without you.
Did you know that we've launched a U27 membership offer for just £1.50 / month? And with full membership from £2.50 / month, it's never been easier to join and support our work:
