European Youth Cup Graz: Silver for Sam Hammond in U19 Men's Boulder

Great Britain’s Sam Hammond delivered an outstanding performance at the IFSC European Boulder Youth Cup in Graz this past weekend, securing a silver medal in the U19 Men’s competition - his first podium finish in Boulder on the international stage.
Hammond impressed in a tightly contested final, flashing the first boulder and claiming zone holds on the remaining three problems. He finished with a score of 54.8, narrowly missing out on gold by just 0.1 points to France’s Lilian Bonniot. Austria’s Julian Schrittwieser completed the podium in third place with 54.3 points.
Reflecting on his performance, Sam said:
"I’m happy to podium after I felt like I underperformed in qualifications. I’m excited for the lead season ahead and Youth Worlds - hopefully I can get some more good results.”
In the U19 Women’s event, Fae MacDougall progressed to the final and placed 10th overall, demonstrating consistency and promise at the European level. Teammates Joe Honeyfield and Oliver Goodwin placed 17th and 49th respectively in the U19 Men’s field, while Holly Kee finished 44th in the Women’s category.
The U17 competitions also saw a number of strong performances from the GB climbers. Harveer Seikham finished an impressive 6th in the U17 Men’s category, with Tom Bouwknegt (17th), Ethan Maxfield (31st), Daniel Shine (33rd), and Reuben Hayward (58th) also competing.
In the U17 Women’s category, Bella Ryder led the British contingent in 31st place, followed by Mia Gallagher (36th), Martha Frost-Mullen (39th), and Phoebe Cook (65th).
