Lake District Social Walk | 12th September
Join our Lake District social walk and learn how the rocks beneath our feet tell the story of our geological history. Explore Cumbria in a way you have never done before!
You are invited to join a peer-led walk, hosted by BMC Lakes Area volunteer, Richard Langthorp. This walk will explore the geology of the impressive Glenderaterra Valley and one of its tributaries (Sinen Gill), returning to the starting point along the same route we went out. Learn how ancient mudstones, siltstones and sandstones, previously caught up in an ancient mountain building event, were altered and hardened locally by the intrusion of granite. Witness the results of incredible heat forming minerals; observe oddities such as an onion ring pattern within rock and prepare for some geological gems.
