BMC Huts Seminar 2026 at Plas y Brenin in North Wales

The BMC Huts Seminar will return on Saturday 7th February 2026.
Where: Plas y Brenin, Capel Curig, Betws-y-Coed LL24 0ET
When: Saturday 7th February 2026 at 11am (arrival from 10am for those attending in person)
Join volunteer hut operators, hut users, club representatives, and guest speakers from across the country for a day of interactive, face-to-face sessions focused on sharing good practice in hut management. The Seminar will be followed by an evening lecture celebrating the history of Alex MacIntyre who the national hut near Glencoe commemorates - lecture proceeds will support our current huts crowdfunding campaign, please give generously here.
Key Topics Include:
- Hut insurance and CLI with Howden
- Fire Safety Updates with a local Fire Safety Officer
- Regional updates, including the Welsh visitor levy and registration
- Hut Manuals – ideas for capturing and conveying key information
- Hut Guidance Documents – gems of wisdom on many critical topics
- National Huts: Refurbs & Retrofits – updates on plans, progress & good practice sharing
- Current challenges and future developments for club huts
- An after-dinner fundraising lecture ‘One Day as a Tiger’ by John Porter, celebrating his friend Alex MacIntyre who the national hut near Glencoe commemorates.

Times:
10:00 – Arrival, registration, Tea, coffee & networking
11.00 – Seminar to commence
13.00 – Lunch (please bring a packed lunch or purchase food from the PyB bar – don’t forget to use your BMC Membership discount!)
17.00 – The seminar will conclude with more networking, followed by a free evening meal for seminar attendees, and an after-dinner fundraising lecture ‘One Day as a Tiger’ by John Porter, celebrating his friend Alex MacIntyre who the national hut near Glencoe commemorates.

Lunch: you are welcome to bring your own or to purchase from the PyB Bar
Refreshments: provided to those joining us at Plas y Brenin
Evening Meal: provided to those joining us at Plas y Brenin
Other drinks: available from the PyB Bar
Accommodation:
Low-price accommodation is available at local club huts. On-site B&B accommodation is currently available at Plas y Brenin – use your BMC Membership number for a discount. Accommodation is available to book at local YHA’s (use your BMC Membership benefit for discounted YHA membership)
Online attendance:
If you’re unable to attend in person, you are welcome to join us online, via Zoom, during the daytime seminar.
Optional Sunday activity:
A guided tour of local club huts to share good practice. If you would like to showcase your hut to others or if you have any suggestions of huts you would like to visit please do get in touch via huts@thebmc.co.uk or via the booking form below. We are particularly interested in showcasing good practice that impacts on environmental sustainability and financial sustainability.
