Youth Climbing Series 2015 dates

Last year's Grand Final at EICA Ratho

The dates for the 2015 BMC Youth Climbing Series are set out below.

Making the dates available early should hopefully give parents and young people plenty of time to arrange their diaries for next year. So if you're planning on taking part in the series in 2015 please record the dates below somewhere to help avoid eventual diary clashes.

In 2015, the regional rounds and Grand Final of the BMC Youth Climbing Series will be held on the following dates:

Regional Rounds
Round 1 - 24th January 2015
Round 2 - 21st February 2015
Round 3/Welsh/London & SE Final - 21st March 2015

Grand Final
Grand Final - 25th April at EICA Ratho, Scotland.

The three rounds are run regionally, so all young climbers wanting to take part should not have to travel too far. To be eligible for the Grand Final it is necessary to take part in at least two regional rounds.

We realise that round 2 may conflict with some areas half term dates, however with the dates of half term in differing regions of the UK spreading over most of February it is almost impossible to spread out the 3 rounds over these winter months without conflicting with a few areas half term dates. This is unavoidable and we won't be making any changes to round dates to account for any particular regions holiday dates.

The 2014 series was very popular, with over 850 young people taking part, and a fantastic Grand Final at the enormous Edinburgh International Climbing Arena near Ratho. Report here

Keep checking the BMC website as the regional venues for each round will be posted as soon as they are all available.

Only one small problem, the Final's in Scotland, which may not technically be "British" after the 19th of September.............Just thought I'd point it out.

Where can I find details of age bands for the youth climbing series?

wow, that's a much earlier final than in previous years. :)

No mention of the change of final date is disappointing. Is there much behind it?

I know there is always a bit of noise about the exams but the summer sports, cricket, tennis, athletics all continue through the summer term because they have little choice. In fact June 13th 2015 is slated as the date for the ESAA U14/17/19 County Championships. That' s every county in England. The U17s will be doing the 100 metres in 11 seconds, looking for national team places. Good tennis and cricket players, looking towards future careers, are training 4/5 times a week.

So there's a wealth of evidence that training through the exam period isn't harming kids, is there any evidence that it is?

With just one month to train before hand what will happen to the Area team meet ups and this year's pre-finals regional academy? Some kids compete for years before they make the finals and the previous gap has been an opportunity to train hard and really motivate them to do their best, attending a team meet up and getting a team sweatshirt can have real meaning and motivation for them.

Are we losing all that to satisfy the fears of a (very) small percentage of parents?

I suppose the dates are fixed now, but it does not seem fair that Wales and L&SE have a final, followed by another final in 1 month. It will be difficult for those kids to maintain peak performance over that period. They cannot build up a score over the 3 rounds as per other regions and aim to peak for the national final. I agree with the other poster that the gap was beneficial and allowed for another training cycle.
