The Scottish Youth Climbing Championshios is an open event, and is also recognised by the MCofS as Scotland’s national youth competition, so there will be both competition champions and Scottish champions.
This year the competition is also Round 2 of the British Junior Lead Cup, for the categories Junior, Youth A, Youth B and Youth C, and the results from this event will be included in the overall series rankings.
The Scottish Youth Climbing Championship (SYCC) is open to all young climbers between the ages of eight and 19. The competition features Lead, Top-rope and Speed disciplines.

SYCC (Lead and Top-rope)
-
The SYCC comprises a qualifier and a final, with a super final and duel if required.
-
Older competitors will lead routes, while those in the younger age categories will top-rope the routes.
-
The qualifier will consist of two routes for each category, with competitors having one attempt at each route.
-
There is no isolation in the qualifier, which means competitors will be able to watch each other climb.
-
The top climbers from the qualifier in each age category will go to a final in isolation.
-
If this does not identify winners a super final or duel will be held.
-
Each attempt at a route is timed and there is a maximum time allowed.
-
The highest (furthest) hold used, held or touched in a usable way will determine the points awarded.
SYSC (Speed)
-
The SYSC comprises a qualifier round in one stage and a final of between one and three elimination stages.
-
There are three age categories (<12, 12-15 and 16-19) depending on the number of entries in each age range.
-
The younger age category competes on a mini-speed wall consisting of IFSC holds.
-
The older age categories compete on the IFSC 15m speed wall.
-
Competitors will have two attempts in the qualifier round to record a time.
-
The fastest times go through to the subsequent head-to-head stages.

Notes
-
Both the SYCC and SYSC are open competitions, open to anyone of eligible age, regardless of country of residence.
-
We have adopted the IFSC age categories for the SYCC.
-
The event is run on the same basis as the Youth Climbing Series (YCS) and a parent must accompany their child and be responsible for their behaviour.
-
The grade standard of routes in all age categories is higher than that of the YCS to correlate to British and IFSC standards.
-
The fee to enter the competition includes the entry fee to the host climbing wall.
-
Parents must adhere to the rules and regulations of the host wall at all times (the arena will be open for public climbing - if you wish to climb outside the competition, you must pay the normal entry fee at reception.
-
