The BMC campaigns on a whole range of issues to do with protecting and improving access to our countryside and coast, including planning issues affecting the landscapes we cherish. 

In 2016 our Mend Our Mountains campaign successfully raised £100,000 to help fund urgent path repairs on iconic mountains and routes within eight National Parks.

What's next on the BMC agenda? 

BMC events are many and varied. Our events range from skills lectures to crag clean-ups and from climbing competitions to conferences on access issues.

The BMC also holds quarterly BMC Area Meetings as well as training courses for clubs and subsidised outdoor courses for anyone wanting to get active outdoors.

The BMC Regional Access Database – or RAD as it’s more snappily known – is the definitive source of access info on the web. It's available as a free app for iPhones and Android.

BMC publications

The BMC produces a range of publications which includes Summit, our quarterly member magazine; an annual Members’ Handbook; guides to best practice in access and conservation; essential safety, skills and equipment advice; and guidance for parents of young climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers.

Many of these publications are available in digital format to download free of charge.

Nicky Spinks becomes the first person to run a Double Paddy Buckley Round

Can you imagine running 61 miles over 47 of Wales' toughest mountains and then turning around and running back again? That's just what 51-year-old beef farmer, Nicky Spinks, did last weekend. The run completes a trilogy: the breast cancer survivor is the first person to have completed double rounds of all three of the British 24-hour mountain running challenges: she ran a double Charlie Ramsay Round in July 2018 and a double Bob Graham in 2016.

Finlay Wild Breaks Records for Welsh 3000ers and Snowdon Horseshoe

This week Finlay Wild set a new record for the Welsh 3000ers - a record that hadn't been broken in 31 years. His time? 4:10:48. The previous record (4:19) was set by under-the-radar fell running hero, Colin Donnelly, in 1988. On the same trip Finlay also set a new record for the Snowdon Horseshoe - avoiding the queues by getting up at the crack of dawn and charging round in 1:20:16 armed with just a gel and a windshirt.
