Please can you confirm that none of the YCS results will count towards GB team selection for 2018 as they have this year?

Regarding entry for the YCS - Does the same rule apply to those in the new GB development squad as applied to those selected for Team GB in previous years i.e. those in Youth B and above are not permitted to enter?

Sadly people are looking for logic where none exists! It appears that no competition results count. Look at all the big comp results from last year...The YCS, the youth open comps etc then compare with those new names selected. Some children with significant podium places NOT selected, some that have never made a final let alone got on a podium have been selected. Go figure!

Hello Rob,
The page gives a link that says: "The years events can also be seen on the BMC's competition calendar" however the calendar is empty when you follow the link.

Please could you be explicit about which comps will be considered as part of the assessment for the Development Squad. BMC Lead and Boulder Championships - Yes. What about the : BMC Open comps ? BMC YCS Final ? Welsh Nationals ? Scottish Nationals ? Being explicit about this would be one step towards better transparency.

Please could you explain how the Lead Cup works eg do competitors have to complete in more than round and it is a cumulative result or individual competitions in each region

YCS results - and the open comps, Welsh Nationals, Irish Nationals - were all included on the new GB development squad application form.
I wonder if these comments which appear to be somewhat bitter, have ever got the authors anywhere.
I suspect not

Lead cup round 2 is bang in the middle of GCSE and A exams, maybe not the best planning?

The comps might have been on the application for but there are names on the list who did not compete in any comps. How does that one work?

It’s pretty clear from above (it's bolded), the only comps which count towards assessment for the GB Development Squad are these :-

BMC British Championships

Junior British Bouldering Championships
17 June – The Depot Manchester

Senior British Bouldering Championships
8-9 July – Sheffield

Junior & Senior British Lead & Speed Climbing Championships - Lead Cup Round 3
7-8 October – Awesome Walls Sheffield

All BMC British Championship events will count towards GB Climbing Team selection for the 2018 season.
