Peak District Social Walk - 3 Ethels | 29th December
Come join us for a refreshing walk after Christmas - an easy, cheerful way to unwind, enjoy good company, and keep the holiday spirit going.
This circular social walk will explore three Ethels. Durham Edge (416m), Burton Bole (417m) and finally, Sir William Hill (429m). Expect dramatic landscapes, trig points and the possibility of a few surprises. Led by Peak District Hill Walking Rep, Alex Davis-Ward. We’re excited to welcome you for a memorable day of walking and celebration!

Distance: Approx. 13 km (8 miles)
Ascent: 325 m (1,065 ft)
Duration: Approximately 5 hours

What to Bring
We’ll cover a range of terrains, so please ensure you are well-prepared with appropriate gear
Footwear: Sturdy, water-resistant hiking boots or shoes with good grip
Clothing: Dress in layers, including a warm layer and waterproofs, as conditions can vary; bring a hat and gloves for cooler areas
Food and Drink: Bring enough food and water for a full day’s walk; there will be no places to purchase refreshments en route
Other Essentials: Although we plan to finish within daylight hours, carrying a small torch or head torch is advisable for emergencies
Who Can Attend
Anyone, Under 18's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be always kept under close control, please indicate on your booking if you will be bringing a dog
Health Precautions: If you have any health conditions that might impact your participation, please inform us in advance. Carry any required medications, and let the walk leader know if assistance may be needed in accessing them
Covid-19: Please do not attend if you feel unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms

Access & Conservation
After lobbying from BMC Peak Area Access Reps and others, DEFRA has ruled that the landowner must now comply with an existing enforcement notice requiring them to remove a plastic matting track on Midhope Moor.
Mend Our Mountains Articles
The dramatic skyline of the Great Ridge walk connects the summits of Lose Hill and Mam Tor in Derbyshire’s Hope Valley. Heavy footfall left the path in a badly eroded state and work to repair the damage to the path started in March this year, and has seen 500 metres of the most serious damage along the path repaired to protect the surrounding landscape and bordering habitat.
