Further to yesterday's article, Jon Punshon has requested that a correction be provided regarding the reasons for his resignation.

Jon felt that the article put undue emphasis on the impact of significant delays experienced in attempting to carry out the investigation that he was tasked with.

His resignation was actually precipitated by the fact that some aspects of specific support that he had requested from the Chair was not forthcoming. This specific support was (i) to correct an impression formed by some that the investigation was being conducted in an aggressive manner and (ii) to insist that the investigation should not be referred to as aggressive in an e-mail from a member of staff and that the member of staff be instructed to respond to Jon’s email communications.

These are confirmed as being the main reasons for the resignation, rather than the delay to which they would have contributed.

As the climbing walls, crags and mountains start to open, we wanted to say thanks to every BMC member who supported us through the Coronavirus crisis.

From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t have made it without you.

I thought I was joining a lobby group related to outdoor pursuits, not a student union..
