Young People Ready to Rock?
View 1 of 3

You can never get enough of a good thing, so we have added some new dates for the full range of Ready to Rock courses. Still value-for-money, Ready to Rock outdoor-climbing courses at Plas y Brenin are there to help young people, adults and families make the move from indoor walls to outdoor crags with confidence.

The BMC continue to work in partnership with Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Sports Centre in North Wales, with funds from Sport England to offer subsidised climbing courses for young people, adults and families who climb regularly on indoor walls and want to develop skills for climbing confidently outside at the crag.

You can now also choose between two-day and five-day Ready to Rock courses. By the end of the two-day course, you'll be a competent second with an understanding of anchor selection and belay techniques, and knowledge of what makes the outside world so different. The five-day course is structured to help you become self-sufficient as quickly as possible, covering anchor selection and construction, rope handling, abseiling and self-protection along with a host of other skills unique to outdoor climbing.

All you need to do is select the course that suits you and take the opportunity to experience some of the best climbing this country has to offer under the friendly and superb guidance of the PyB instructors – and all at a bargain price!

Why is this for London and SE when it looks like it is happening in Wales? Or is Sports England helping pay for London based kids vs rest of the country?

Hi,
I think this is a wonderful thing for BMC and PYB to be doing, but it is also a great shame that you've restricted the age range. In my experience many more mature adults are now discovering climbing and would love to experience real rock. I have met and climb with many mothers and fathers who have discovered climbing through taking their kids to a climbing wall as well as mature town and city workers who have become hooked after one try-climb when a wall opened up in their area. A group I work and climb with age ranges from 25 through to 70 many of whom would take up an opportunity like this in shot. Please bear this in mind for any future programmes you are considering. The same is true for other areas such as mountaineering and expeditioning - please include the over 25s and don't assume we're old-timers at 40!
Many thanks.

Can the age restrictions be moved to include under,16 and over 25 or do an initiative for families as well in the future as I would love to take my daughters on a course like this.

Where does it say there's an age restriction? Can someone confirm that there is one, we're slightly older than 25, by about 24 years and would like to book the course. Can we, or not?
