View 1 of 3

Fantastic value, BMC-subsidised outdoor climbing courses at Plas y Brenin are there to help everyone – adults, young people and families – make the move to climbing in the great outdoors.

The Ready to Rock courses are subsidised by the BMC using funds from Sport England and are based at the fabulous Plas y Brenin Centre, near Capel Curig, at the heart of beautiful Snowdonia in North Wales. There you'll receive superb support from friendly and highly qualified instructors – all at a bargain price!

Two-day or five-day courses are offered, with separate courses for adults, young people, and families listed below.

By the end of a two-day course, you'll be a competent second with an understanding of anchor selection and belay techniques, and knowledge of what makes the climbing outdoors so interesting.

The five-day course is structured to help you become self-sufficient in anchor selection, belay construction, rope handling, abseiling, self-protection and a host of other skills useful for climbing outdoors.

So, select the course you want from the dates below then click on the blue info & booking link and that will take you to the booking page at Plas y Brenin.

Why is this for London and SE when it looks like it is happening in Wales? Or is Sports England helping pay for London based kids vs rest of the country?

Hi,
I think this is a wonderful thing for BMC and PYB to be doing, but it is also a great shame that you've restricted the age range. In my experience many more mature adults are now discovering climbing and would love to experience real rock. I have met and climb with many mothers and fathers who have discovered climbing through taking their kids to a climbing wall as well as mature town and city workers who have become hooked after one try-climb when a wall opened up in their area. A group I work and climb with age ranges from 25 through to 70 many of whom would take up an opportunity like this in shot. Please bear this in mind for any future programmes you are considering. The same is true for other areas such as mountaineering and expeditioning - please include the over 25s and don't assume we're old-timers at 40!
Many thanks.

Can the age restrictions be moved to include under,16 and over 25 or do an initiative for families as well in the future as I would love to take my daughters on a course like this.

In reply to mowglitheclimber

If you are resident in the UK then yes.

Where does it say there's an age restriction? Can someone confirm that there is one, we're slightly older than 25, by about 24 years and would like to book the course. Can we, or not?
28/05/2013
There are on longer any age restrictions related to the above Ready to Rock courses. Please do get in contact with PYB directly to book.

Hi, i am a 16 year old climber and i wanted t go on one of the courses offered but was unsure which to chose as i have never climbed outdoors and am hoping to start bouldering outdoors in the coming months. I have climbed regularly at my local climbing gym, which is bouldering only, i am able to climb V2-3, and certain V4s. Would you able to recommend which course would be best for me?
