The fully revised and updated fourth edition of Eric Langmuir’s classic training handbook Mountaincraft and Leadership has finally been delivered. Years in the making, and over 450 pages long, every aspect of mountaincraft is covered in this evergreen manual first published in 1969.
Fans of earlier editions will recognise that while the format hasn’t changed much, there is a wealth of fresh material that brings this classic bang up to date. More than a dozen acknowledged specialists in their field have contributed to various chapters with almost 200 new illustrations.
But while the content has evolved quite radically, the ethos of Langmuir’s original concept is very much intact. This new edition ensures ‘Langmuir’ will be around for a good few years yet.
Chapters include: Navigation, Hillwalking Technique, Campcraft and Expeditions, Food and Nutrition, Access and Conservation, Security on Steep Ground, River Crossing, Mountain Weather, Mountain Hypothermia, Effects of Heat, First Aid, Incident Management and Mountain Rescue, Party Leadership, Technique on Snow and Ice, Security on Snow and Ice, Snow and Avalanches and Cold Injury.
The book is published jointly by the Mountain Training Boards of England and Scotland.
