Mountaineering Instructor Award

Posted by Jon Garside on 07/08/2008
What does the Mountain Instructor Award cover?

The Mountaineering Instructor Award, known as the MIA, is for climbing instructors working in summer conditions.

It covers multi-pitch rock climbing, scrambling and other mountaineering skills.

Mountain Leader Training England has produced a DVD showcasing the eight leadership and instructional awards available in the UK. The film follows an MIA holder introducing two novices to the complexities of British rock climbing.  It gives a great insight into the MIA and includes an interview with the instructor.

Those looking to gain the MIA must first complete the Mountain Leader award. Once further experience has been gained, it is possible to register for the scheme with Mountain Leader Training UK. For more information read the MIA prospectus and syllabus.
