Make winter count: with a BMC Skills Lecture 2018

Posted by Becky McGovern on 31/07/2018

#MakeWinterCount and get tooled up with all the skills at one of our winter lectures this November. Tickets on sale beginning of October.

Who can go? The Winter Lectures are brilliant for anybody who wants to learn more about winter mountaineering skills.  You’ll go from bumbling about to striding with confidence to the summit after you’ve gained all the knowledge from expert Winter Mountaineering Instructors Sam Leary and Mick Jones.

What’s more, there’ll be loads of Lowe Alpine goodies up for grabs in the free prize draw to tool you up!

So what skills will you learn about? Everything the new winter adventurer could possibly need, including:

Equipment and clothing
Navigation
Footwork
Route planning
Avalanche awareness
Climbing
And much more!

Tickets on sale beginning of October

Tickets can be purchased online from October. Tickets cost £7 for BMC members and £9 for non-members. There’ll be a group discount: £4.75 when purchasing 10 or more tickets.

Tickets CANNOT be purchased on the door on the night.

We’ve joined forces with Lowe Alpine to make our winter lectures better than ever.

#MakeWinterCount Competition

Over the whole of winter, the BMC and Lowe Alpine are running a winter competition.  Share your winter adventures on social media with the hashtag #MakeWinterCount and you’ll be entered into a fantastic prize draw worth thousands of pounds (winners will be announced next Spring).

And that’s not the only competition we’ll be running. At every lecture there’ll be the chance to win one of many Lowe Alpine goodies.

Jasmin Taylor, a telemark Eddie the Eagle and our best hope for the winter Olympics?

Jasmin Taylor won more medals at World skiing level last winter than any other British athlete, and this season is going down in similar fashion. The first Brit to ever win a World Championship medal in telemark skiing (which she has now achieved twice), she's a sort of modern day Eddie the Eagle, flying the flag for Brits in this niche sub-genre of skiing, and setting her hopes on winning the Olympics.
