Following an incident over the weekend (Valkyrie Buttress, Roaches lower tier) the PDNPA contacted BMC with a request to assess the condition of the rock.
Dave Bishop (Staffs Access Rep.) was dispatched and identified that a large block (now on the ground below the buttress) appeared to have come off half-way up top slab of Valkyrie, 2nd pitch
Dave abbed down to find another large block was also loose, and with the assistance of PDNPA staff on marshalling duties, this was trundled to terra ferma in an impressive fashion.
The work has left an area of dirty rock, but this should clean-up just fine with a few ascents and a downpour or two.
The picture shows Dave working in the area where the loose blocks once were - the climbing has not been significantly affected and the route grade is unchanged.
