European Youth Cup Ratho, Edinburgh

The first IFSC European Youth Cup (EYC) of the year was held at EICA Ratho, Edinburgh over the weekend of 18th - 20th May. The event involved both Speed and Lead climbing events for male and female junior, youth A and youth B categories.

It was also the first International competition where recently introduced IFSC rules changes were used.

The event started on the Friday evening with the qualifying rounds for the Speed Climbing events.

Saturday was the qualifying round in the Lead Climbing categories. Team GB did really well with the following Team members qualifying for the finals:

In female youth B Tara Hayes qualified for the final in 6th place, Molly Thompson-Smith in 7th place. In male youth B William Bosi qualified in 7th place. In female juniors Charlotte Garden qualified in =5th place. In male juniors Luke Tilley qualified in =7th place and Jonathan Stocking in 10th place.

The finals for both the Leading Climbing and the Speed Climbing competitions took place on Sunday 20th May and everyone was treated to some amazing climbing. Not least Leonardo Gontero completing the speed final in an amazing 6.66 seconds!
