Independent Stakeholder Board Member – Marketing & Commercial

The Independent Marketing & Commercial Advisor will provide expert guidance and strategic oversight in all marketing and commercial matters relating to the World Climbing Series & World Para Climbing Series Manchester 2027. Reporting to the Chair and working closely with other stakeholder board members and key LOC staff, they will bring expertise to advise on maximising commercial opportunities and enhancing the event’s profile.

Chair of the Stakeholder Board

The Chair will lead the Stakeholder Board (SHB), provide independent oversight, and ensure the event is delivered effectively, safely, and within budget. The Chair will set the tone for governance, decision making, and collaboration between MCC, Manchester Active, the BMC, UK Sport, and other delivery partners. The Chair will work closely with the Event Director to ensure the LOC has the direction, support, and challenge required to deliver the World Climbing Series event to the standards expected by MCC, the BMC, UK Sport, and World Climbing. The Chair will also represent the SHB externally, creating and supporting relationships with other strategic partners as required.

Marketing and Communications Assistant

This varied role offers hands on experience and development in a broad range of marketing, communication and commercial administration. You will help ensure our campaigns, partnerships and events run smoothly by updating web content, co-ordinating social media posts, supporting events and assisting with marketing, communication and partnership activity.

We have an opening for a responsible and organised Operations Assistant to join our growing organisation. In this position, you will provide vital support to our Finance and Membership teams by performing various office and administrative tasks, to keep the office running smoothly and support our membership growth and retention targets.

Competitions Commission (CC) Volunteers

The CC supports BMC-sanctioned competitions and works collaboratively with Mountaineering Scotland and Mountaineering Ireland to ensure a coherent competition pathway and aligned technical standards.

Volunteer Coach Accreditations

Applications are now open to apply to be a volunteer GB Climbing Accredited Coach. Accredited coaches will support GBR athletes and the BMC (as the National Governing Body of the sport) on the World Climbing international competition support. The coaches will provide effective athlete support in all competition environments, both front and back of house whilst also supporting every athlete, regardless of their affiliation, fostering a unified and supportive team environment.

Applications open Monday 12 January and will close Sunday 8 February 2026.

BMC Volunteer opportunities

Area volunteers undertake vital roles in the democratic structure of the BMC and the work we do on behalf of members and the wider climbing, hill walking and mountaineering community. Each of the ten BMC Areas (eight in England, two in Wales) holds an Area AGM, at which elections for a range of volunteer roles are held, and outside of these meetings, members can be co-opted into roles. Currently, we have a number of vacant roles.
