The BMC is running a fundraising campaign from the 15-22 March 2019 to help some UK based charities that work through the medium of climbing and the outdoors. Teams from schools, universities, climbing clubs and individuals can sign up to raise money for one of the charities through one of our climbing challenges or make up their own.

The charities you can help by Climbing4all
Bendrigg Trust is an outdoor centre and registered charity specialising in supporting people with disabilities, and those facing disadvantage, to have amazing outdoor adventure opportunities. We want to transform the lives of young people using the power of the outdoors. Our 3 year programme for 11-16 year olds is based on using outdoor adventure as a platform to help these youngsters to build the resilience and develop the hope, confidence and skills to face the challenges in their daily lives; challenges like bullying, mental health issues, chaotic home lives, poverty, living in care, young carers, no positive role models- to name but a few.
ClimbUp is a registered charity based in Bristol that provides an opportunity for young people who may be at a disadvantage in life to engage in the sport of climbing. ClimbUp provides support to young people between the age of eight and 18 who have been referred by schools, social workers and voluntary sector agencies. Many young people who start climbing with ClimbUp go onto become independent climbers with increased confidence not only at the climbing wall but with more general aspects of their lives.
We fund climbing and educational programs for at risk young people. With the support of TCA Glasgow, we opened up several projects in Glasgow, in early 2016. These run during the school holidays and are proving to be a real success. We’ve also opened up an Edinburgh Uprising in 2017 which runs out of EICA Ratho. These projects typically run once a week for two hours and have 10 young people involved. We are entirely run by volunteers, so 100% of your donations reaches those that need it.
Endeavour is a small national charity headquartered in Sheffield and working with disadvantaged young people (aged 13-25), primarily those who are struggling in school and/or have learning difficulties. For over 60 years, we have been using the outdoors and challenging activities such as climbing, hill walking, abseiling, canoeing, mountain bike, weaselling and residentials to push personal boundaries, build confidence and challenge young people.
Climbing for All Sheffield is a registered charity which was set up “to help children and young people with a wide range of disabilities enjoy rock climbing and mountaineering and be visible and included in the climbing community in Sheffield.”Our base is
The Foundry Climbing Centre in Sheffield. We are starting a climbing club to offer a sustainable weekly climbing opportunity club members. We will also run ‘Come and Try It’ sessions and other sociable and inspiring events whenever we can.
The Prince’s Trust helps 13 to 30 year olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives. The Prince’s Trust Fairbridge programme, for young people aged 16-25, is an individually tailored personal development programme combining one to one support and group activities. The programme begins with a short Access course specifically designed for young people who may have struggled with more structured programmes. It is delivered using challenging, adventurous activities, including a few days away from home at an outdoor residential venue.
The money raised through the Climbing4all Charity Fundraiser will go towards the Fairbridge programme in Cardiff.

We provide disadvantaged young people with positive social development opportunities through engagement in adventurous activities and residential experiences. Many of the young people we work with come from deprived communities and can often face multiple barriers to their personal development including, poverty, broken home, dysfuctional family or negative peer influence. Residential opportunities and adventurous activities at Ormesmill enable young people to push personal limits, overcome fears, increase their self-esteem and confidence, develop new positive supportive friendships and gives them a real sense of achievement and positive experience away from the negative environment they can often live in.

11. Climbing Out of Depression
