The BMC Get Outside Weekend 2019 aims to celebrate and support ethnic minority adventure in the great outdoors. Based in the Peak District this weekend will offer practical sessions on climbing, walking and navigation for complete beginners to more advanced sessions for people who would like to teach and lead other people in the outdoors.
Who is this event for?
Our aim is to provide a fun weekend of outdoor workshops for people from minority ethnic groups who would like to get more active in the outdoors. The event is also for those looking to help people from ethnic minorities get more active in the outdoors. All participants must be over the age of 18.
Where is the event?
The weekend will be based at the Hollowford Centre in Castleton in the heart of the Peak District.
When is it?
Particiants can arrive from 18.00 pm on Friday 25th October where there will be a welcome at 20.30pm. The weekend will end at 16.00 on Sunday the 27th October.
Accommodation & Food
Accommodation will be provided on the Friday and Saturday nights. Room sizes vary from 1 to 8 people, although the majority are 4-bedded. All rooms have en-suite facilities.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided on the Saturday and Sunday and an evening meal on the Saturday night.
No food is available on the Friday night so please eat before arriving or bring your own dinner on this evening.
The sessions available are:
2 day Hill skills: Looking at key equipment for walking and covering basic navigation. For this course please register with Mountain training HERE. FULL
> Outdoor leaders refresher: refreshing key skills for leading groups in the outdoors.
> A days guided walk
> A beginners guided walk
> A beginners rock climbing taster day.
> A rock skills day. For people who have done some climbing and would like to progress their abilities under guidance from an experienced climbing instructor.
Friday, 25th: Arrive after 18.00 pm. Welcome and introduction to the weekend at 20.00pm.
Saturday, 26th: Outdoor sessions from 9.00am-16.30pm
Socialising and recovering 17.00-19.00pm
Dinner from 19.00-20.00pm
Socialising and looking at outdoor opportunities 20.00-21.00pm
Sunday, 27th: Outdoor sessions from 9.00am-15.00pm
Farewell at 15.30pm
Departure at 16.00 pm
This weekend is highly subsidised so the cost per person is only £30 which includes accommodation, food and instruction for the whole weekend.
