Better bolts campaign 2012-13: great news for sport climbers

Better bolts from the BMC

Great news for sport climbers! Once again the BMC is providing free bolts and accessories to bolt funds in England & Wales. Bolt funds are invited to make applications for equipment to replace old bolts and belays to help make our sport climbs safer.

We're happy to report that funding for the 2012-13 campaign is a whopping £10,000. This may sound like a lot, but the cost of high quality bolts has risen in recent years, meaning that voluntary bolt funds need all the help they can get to help make our sport climbs safer.

We can't always be there to help in the arduous task of replacing old bolts and belays, but at least we can help provide top quality equipment.

If you are in a bolt fund, download the information sheet to find out what is on offer.

Then download and complete the application form, which will be used to vet your project to ensure that it won't cause any access, environmental or ethical problems.

Finally rder your bolts using the order form, which will make sure you get what you need for your project.

All projects are finely audited before any bolts are issued, to make sure that they go where they are most needed, and not where they aren't wanted.

IMPORTANT: DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 15TH OCTOBER 2012

Are these bolts available for replacing old 8mm bolts on trad routes?

Unfortunately not, these are for existing sport routes only. If you have something specific in mind though, it can be voted on at an Area Meeting. As long as it gets approval there and at National Council, then there is no reason why it can't happen. Hope that answers your question?

Who are the BMC buying the new bolts from? Is it Scott Titt's brother by any chance?
