Peter Hutchinson, founder of the brands Mountain Equipment and then PHD, passed away on Friday 2 November 2018, aged 81. Peter was hands-on at the forefront of outdoor down gear manufacture from the very beginning of the industry until the modern day. When other outdoor brands grew big and moved production overseas, Peter saw a different way. A more sustainable and personal way.

Jasmin Taylor won more medals at World skiing level last winter than any other British athlete, and this season is going down in similar fashion. The first Brit to ever win a World Championship medal in telemark skiing (which she has now achieved twice), she's a sort of modern day Eddie the Eagle, flying the flag for Brits in this niche sub-genre of skiing, and setting her hopes on winning the Olympics.

On Monday, 24-year-old Uisdean Hawthorn trotted across Skye's iconic Cuillin Ridge in 4 hours 57 minutes, knocking more than 1 hour 15 minutes off the previous winter record, set by Finlay Wild and Tim Gomersall in February 2016. Sarah Stirling interviews the Scot, who can see Skye from his house. Uisdean is better known for his climbing exploits but is also a keen mountain runner.
