This Girl Can is back on our screens and billboards with a 4 week campaign launched at the end of January 2017. The BMC is holding a photo-shoot to find some new faces for the This Girl Can Climb campaign.

The This Girl Can Climb photo-shoot will take place at Manchester Climbing Centre, on Sunday 26 February from 12 - 3.30pm. The images will be used on BMC website, social media, and posters and shared with partners to promote This Girl Can climbing opportunities.

To ensure we fully represent all women we’re looking a diverse group of around 12 women to join the photo-shoot. You can come along as an individual climber, or with your climbing partner. If selected your admission to the climbing centre will be paid for.

What we’re looking for:

  • Female climbers of all ages who climb indoors, from age 16 up to age 75 and above
  • Female climbers of all abilities from *newer climbers through to more advanced climbers
  • Female climbers from different ethnicity groups
  • Female climbers with disabilities or impairments
  • Female climbers who are comfortable in front of the camera and happy for their photo to be used as part of the campaign.

*All climbers who haven’t climbed at Manchester Climbing Centre before, or who are newer to climbing must undergo MCC’s skills test prior to climbing-this will include practical demo’s of putting harness on, tying on, belaying, auto belay demo’s test, and bouldering tests.

If you think you could be one of the faces of the This Girl Can Climb campaign please complete the expression of interest form and send it along with a photo of yourself climbing indoors, or outdoors to Joanna@thebmc.co.uk by Thursday 16 February. We will confirm your place by Monday 20 February.

Not available on the 26th February but keen to get involved?

Feel free to send climbing photo's that you think would be good to use for the This Girl Can Climb campaign. Email them over to Jo at the BMC Joanna@thebmc.co.uk but please consider the points below.

The ethos of the This Girl Can campaign
This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets. The campaign is having more of a focus towards women in their 50's, 60's and above, and women with their children. We're looking for images that show the community, fun and the social side of climbing aswell as those that show you taking part.

People in the photo
If there are people in your photographs please make sure you have asked their permission, and if they are under 18, their guardian’s permission.

Submit a high-quality image
Please make sure that each image is at least 1MB in size and that you set your camera to the highest quality setting. Images of a low file size or resolution may not be large enough to print to display. Images which have been shared over social media may not be of a high enough resolution to print – please submit the original image file where possible.

Photos must be original and belong to you
Photos should be your own work and should not have previously been published externally (including in local/national media or other photo competitions). Photos that have been published on Flickr or used on the website or materials of a charity are fine.

Permission to use your photo
By submitting an entry you are granting the BMC the right to use, distribute and publicise your photo. However, copyright of any submitted image remains with the photographer. If you do not wish to grant these rights please do not submit your contribution.
