The Paraclimbing Series is organised by the BMC, Climb Scotland, Manchester Climbing Centre, Newcastle Climbing Centre, Edinburgh International Climbing Arena and the Castle Climbing Centre, London.

This is a series of events to provide disabled people with an opportunity to have a go at climbing in the competitive environment. It will be run in friendly surroundings with lots of experienced people on hand to assist. We hope to get as many paraclimbers as possible to attend the four events and we will hopefully get climbers attending more than one event so we can have some series winners.

DATES & VENUES  2016

We plan to use this series as a basis for talent identification and selection for the GB Paraclimbing Team. For 2017 the Paraclimbing Team are to be sponsored by Berghaus and Birchall Blackburn Law.

CATEGORIES

There will be nine different categories – Male and Female:

  • Using Upper & Lower Limbs (any number) (Neurological Physical Disability)
  • Lower Body Amputation/Limbless
  • Upper Body Amputation/Limbless
  • Visual Impairment
  • Hearing Impairment
  • People with learning disabilities
  • Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties & Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Condition
  • Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Mental Health support needs

COMPETITION FORMAT

Competitors will have to climb three roped climbs and three boulder problems and will be given a score on each one dependant on height gained. The climber with the best score in each category will win.

Notes

Please note we will be putting top ropes on the boulder problems, to allow competitors to be able to put in maximum effort without the worry of an awkward landing off the boulder problems.

Overall series winners will be crowned at this event, and competitors must have competed in at least two events to have an overall series result.

Prior online registration – all entrants:

Round 1 – see MCofS website

Rounds 2, 3 & 4

  • 2 events – £15
  • All 3 events – £22

Please note that competitors are responsible for bringing their own carer and support workers appropriate to the competitors disability, to assist them to participate in the event. The BMC is not responsible for providing support workers appropriate to each competitors disability, but the staff and volunteers involved in the competition will do their best to help and support competitors to compete the best they can.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Please complete the online entry form at least two days before each event. Entries on the day will be accepted, but online entry is preferable.
  • Parental consent must be given for any competitor aged 12 to 17 years on the day of the event.
  • All applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their application. They will then receive a further e-mail containing full event information two days before the event.
