Good things come in threes, and hot off the Climbers’ Club press are three guidebooks to climbing in south west and southern England.

Wye Valley Supplement
This new supplement attempts to pull together all known or reported developments since the publication of the three definitive guides to the Wye Valley area (Lower Wye Crags, Symonds Yat Area, and Forest of Dean) starting back in 2007. Four new crags: Mounton Valley Rocks, near Chepstow; Plumweir Cliff above Shorn Cliff, and Bailey Quarry and the Celestial Walls near Symonds Yat are also included.

Fairy Cave Quarry
Since its relatively recent development, the quarry has become the Mendips Mecca for traditional slab climbing. The slabs, which reach a height of 40 metres, are natural limestone bedding planes exposed by quarrying, providing excellent climbing free from pegs and other fixed gear. A formal access agreement secured by the BMC, principally through local access representative Ian Butterworth, came into effect in July 2010; facelift work undertaken by volunteers has also improved the quality of the climbing experience.

South West Climbs Volume 1
The original edition of South West Climbs was written by prolific pioneer Pat Littlejohn and published by Ken Wilson in 1979. It introduced many climbers to the superb climbing on the south-west peninsula of England. For this new edition, the climbing has been split into two volumes, the first covering areas close to the main centres of population, such as Avon Gorge, Wye Valley and Dorset. It has been written by a talented team of local activists. Volume 2 has been written by Pat Littlejohn and covers Devon, Cornwall and Jersey. It will be published either later this year or in 2013.
