Terry Abraham, Mick Fowler, Alan Hinkes and Mary-Ann Ochota are just some of the fantastic people lined up to talk under the canvas of our tipi at Keswick Mountain Festival this year. There will also be prizes, skills sessions, inspirational talks and family walks; oh, and free drinks!

Kicking off the UK’s 2016 summer festival season with a burst of adventure is the legendary Keswick Mountain Festival on 19 to 22 May. Wrapped up in this unique event is a mix of outdoor adventure, high profile speakers, sporting events, live music, camping and family friendly activities, all with the magical Lakeland landscape as your background.

If you're planning on coming, don't forget to join the BMC and Lowe Alpine in our tipi of awesomeness. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • The making of Terry Abraham's 'Life of a Mountain: Blencathra. Remember seeing Terry's Scafell Pike film on the BBC? Join us for this insight into the making of his latest epic, 'Life of a Mountain: Blencathra'. Expect an entertaining insight into Terry's unique filmmaking approach: wild camping, dedication to the DIY ethos, passion, and healthy lashings of real ale. Sunday, 12.30
  • Mick Fowler’s 10 tips for success in the greater ranges. Join Alpine legend and BMC patron Mick Fowler to hear his tips for success in the world's biggest mountains. Mick famously holds down a job as a taxman while making pioneering climbs in the Himalaya, the Andes and the Yukon. How? Saturday, 15.30
  • Mary-Ann Ochota presents the skills sessions. Need some help with your nav? Join BMC new ambassador Mary-Ann Ochota and a Mountain Training pro for some essential tips on navigation and gear for the hills. Friday and Saturday AM
  • A drink with Alan Hinkes OBE (BMC members only). Banter provided by the first Briton to climb the world's 8,000 metre peaks, drinks provided by the BMC. Show your BMC membership card for entry. Friday, 16.30

BMC hillwalking officer Carey Davies will give an update on the BMC crowdfunding campaign, and will be joined by Fix the Fells to discuss the Brown Tongue path on Scafell Pike, as well as other footpath repair projects in the Lake District.

15:30 Clock off, it’s time for family adventure
Adventure is not just for bearded alpha males! Join the Meek family to find out how they take big adventurous ideas and make them family-friendly.

16:30 A drink with Alan Hinkes (BMC members only)

Snowdonia National Park wants your views on its plans to manage this iconic peak.

As an ex mountaineer/climber (now arthritically restricted) the part of the monthly BMC newsletter I enjoy most are the films. They enable me to enjoy the adrenaline boost of climbing and the peacefulness of being in the mountains. Long may they continue.
