Rockfall Affecting Access to Pen Trwyn

A rockfall above the Marine Drive on the Great Orme has led to the closure of access to the public (even on foot) along the Marine Drive.

A rockfall following a torrential storm on the night of June 28th has led to the temporary closure of the Marine Drive around the Great Orme. This affects access to all of Upper Pen Trwyn and the bouldering at Parisellas Cave, as both vehicular and pedestrian access has been closed. The rockfall itself is relatively small and is close to the "Love Over Gold" area, and does not seem to directly affect any of the routes. However engineers and geo-technical experts are concerned that a much larger area of rock in the same vicinity could also fall. Until inspections and rock-scaling works have been completed the Marine Drive will remain closed until further notice.

Access to Lower Pen Trwyn seems possible by walking along the beach from the steps by the pier, but not officially by the usual descent gully.

If the restriction continues for a longer time period the BMC will attempt to negotiate access for climbers to the Parisella's caves and Mayfair walls areas, which are completely unaffected by this recent rockfall.
