Potential partnership management of more Peak District moorland

Burbage North - one of the crags within the proposal area

Sheffield City Council (SCC), will be seeking approval from the Sheffield South West Community Assembly to continue to develop ideas on the potential for the Eastern Moors Partnership to manage an important area of moorland in their ownership.

This area – the Burbage, Houndkirk & Hathersage Moors - which encompasses the very popular climbing and walking around the Burbage Valley, is currently managed for SCC by Kier Property Asset Management (KPAM). During the stakeholder engagement sessions run by the Eastern Moors Partnership (a collaboration between The National Trust and RSPB) for the Eastern Moors Estate, at the request of SCC, views were also collected on the future management of the Burbage, Houndkirk & Hathersage Moors. Following this, SCC would like to explore ideas for external organisations to take on the management of the estate, of which one of the possibilities if the Eastern Moors Partnership.

The proposal to develop ideas for a management arrangement with the Eastern Moors Partnership, (along with any other potential interested parties), will be tabled and voted upon at a public meeting of the Sheffield South West Community Assembly, to be held 31st March, at 6pm, Tapton School, Sheffield. There will be a presentation from the NT/RSPB Eastern Moors Partnership, followed by a question & answer session and then the formal vote. If you would like to hear more about the proposal, raise issues for consideration or add your support for the recommendation, then the Partnership would welcome any members of the public that are able to attend the evening. No decisions will be taken at the meeting, rather it is about agreeing to progress the process.

Tapton School is located on Darwin Lane, Fulwood, S10 5RG. In the meantime, Roy Taylor (RSPB Peak Area Manager) is happy to field any queries and is contactable either at: Roy.taylor@rspb.org.uk or 07710 084415.
