The September 2016 issue of the BMC Peak Area newsletter is now online, keeping you informed about what’s happening in the region, including the next BMC area meeting.

In this issue:  Henry Folkard’s regular round-up of access and conservation news; an interview with local climbing activist Kristian Clemmow; National Trust ranger Luke Barley provides an insight into the prehistoric trees of the White Peak; poetry from Mark Warwicker; Simon Lee brings us the latest climbing news & gossip, and Peter Judd provides a hill walker’s perspective on the rebranding.

The next Peak Area Meeting is on Wednesday 14 September 2016, starting at 7.30pm, at The Maynard, Main Road, Grindleford, S32 2HE
(Note venue change: originally advertised as taking place at The Globe in Glossop)

Come along to our regular gathering of Peak climbers and walkers, to discuss the latest issues and get involved in the work of the BMC. The area meetings are run by volunteers and are your chance to join in with debate and influence decisions about what happens in your area as well as the rest of the country.

Consultation on rebranding
The meeting will include a consultation on our recent rebranding announcement, and will be attended by BMC president Rehan Siddiqui, vice-presidents Emma Flaherty and Rupert Davies, and CEO Dave Turnbull, who will explain the background to the rebranding proposal in detail; this will be followed by an open discussion and Q&A session.

Guest speaker is Nigel Vardy, aka Mr Frostbite
In 1999 Nigel suffered severe frostbite in temperatures of -60°C on Denali in Alaska. It cost him his fingers, nose and all of his toes. An inspiring tale of resilience, recovery and adversity against the odds, Nigel’s injuries haven’t stopped him rising to life’s daily challenges and going on to climb some of the world’s toughest and most challenging mountains.

Free supper provided by the BMC. All are welcome.

See the BMC Local Areas site for more details about the meeting

We want to say a big thanks to every BMC member who continues to support us through the Coronavirus crisis.

From weekly Facebook Lives and GB Climbing home training videos, to our access team working to re-open the crags and fight for your mountain access, we couldn’t do it without you.

Did you know that we've just launched a new U27 membership offer for just £1.50 / month? And with full membership from £2.50 / month, it's never been easier to join and support our work:
