Congratulations to bright young climbing star and BMC ambassador, Molly Thompson-Smith, who has joined the team of sponsored athletes at Berghaus.
Just 16 years old, Molly has an impressive list of climbing achievements and is the current senior, yes senior, British Lead Climbing Champion. It's no wonder Berghaus have snapped her up to promote their brand alongside the likes of Sir Chris Bonington, Leo Houlding, Mick Fowler and Karen Darke.
Molly, from London, trains at the Westway Climbing Centre where she's been climbing since going there for her 8th birthday party. Molly's big breakthrough came in 2010 when she became junior British Lead Climbing Champion and she's gone on to captain the GB junior climbing team.
Molly says: “I’m over the moon to be joining the Berghaus team. I am going work with some of my climbing heroes and I’m sure I’ll learn loads from them, especially as I start doing more outside. She continued "I am already a fan of Berghaus kit and have been using it for a while, but now I will be able to find out even more about how outdoor gear is developed and contribute to the next generation of great products.”
David Heath, from Berghaus, welcomed Molly to the team: "We’re really excited about working with Molly. She has bags of talent and personality and is really going to fit in well with the rest of our team of sponsored athletes." He continued: "We started working with Leo Houlding when he was just not much older than Molly. Everyone knows how well that partnership has worked and I hope that Berghaus and Molly Thompson-Smith can also develop a successful, long term relationship.”
As a BMC ambassador Molly is doing a fabulous job representing the BMC, meeting up-and-coming young climbers and making personal appearances around the country to promote the BMC and climbing in general. She recently made a great impression at Berrymede Junior School - the primary school hooked on climbing.
Molly is one of seven BMC ambassadors. Molly says: “The BMC has allowed me to pursue my dreams of testing myself against the best in the climbing world in some of the most beautiful places and locations on the globe. The organisation itself inspires both young and old and is so supportive in the way that it makes you feel special and appreciated.”
