Levet and Fischhuber win 2005 Bouldering World Cup

Posted by on 03/10/2005

The concluding round of the 2005 Bouldering World Cup was held at the weekend in Firminy (France).

The womens event was won by Juliette Danion (France), but her compatriot Sandrine Levet’s second place secured her fifth World Cup crown. In the mens event, a third place finish by Austria’s Kilian Fischhuber was enough to take the series, when his closest challengers, Jerome Mayer (France) and Christian Core (Italy) failed to make the final. Britain had two finalists – Andy Earl (7th) and Gareth Parry (12th).

The surprise winner of the event was Tomasz Oleksy (Poland), whose win lifted him into the top ten of the rankings, at the expense of Andy Earl, who in turn finished one place ahead of Gareth Parry. Mark Croxall retained a top ten ranking (7th), finishing 16th in Firminy. See the ICC website for full results.

The 2006 Bouldering World Cup will once again begin at the BMC’s Climb 2006, part of the Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show – 17-19 March, NEC, Birmingham.
