It is with great sadness that the BMC reports the death of Frank Davies, who opened The Climbers Shop in Ambleside in 1959.

We understand that Frank died peacefully last week, on the evening of Wednesday 25 June.

In 1959 Frank Davies opened The Climbers Shop - the first outdoor shop in Ambleside.

For over half a century The Climbers Shop remains in the centre of Ambleside and is a focal point for many climbers, walkers and holidaymakers wanting to kit themselves out for the outdoor lifestyle.

He also climbed with many local Lakeland climbers and will be deeply missed.

His funeral is at home at 1pm on 7th July. The address is Broughton House, Field Broughton, Grange Over Sands, LA11 6HN.

It will be a humanist ceremony, in a marquee in the garden.  The family are asking for donations that will be split equally between Community Action Nepal (CAN) and The Hospice at Home.
