If you are looking to build or manage a climbing wall there there are several sources of information to check out.

If you are thinking of building a climbing wall we recommend you get a copy of the BMC Climbing Wall Manual. The Climbing Wall Manual is designed for Leisure Managers Facility Owners; Climbers Designers; Architects Essential Information Independent Advice Technical Expertise Guidance on feasibility, design, location, funding, safety, equipment and good practice. 

For advice and quotes on building your climbing wall you should contact the Climbing Wall Manufacturers Association (CWMA). CWMA exists to provide for the highest standards in construction, supply and maintenance of artificial climbing structures. Using a CWMA member ensures that the wall will meet both your needs and the exacting standards set down in the European Regulations, CEN 12572-1.

CWMA liaises with the BMC, government agencies including The Department for Community Schools and Family, The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Health and Safety Executive and other bodies whose work affects climbing walls.

The safe operation and management of a climbing wall is a complex process where statutory requirements and duty of care are of paramount importance. The Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) gives environmental health officers, insurers and climbing wall users the confidence that the highest standards of safety and operational procedures are practiced at member walls.

Does this manual have standards and specs regarding flooring in route and boulder areas? Is CEN 12572 1-3 fully adopted in the UK or is there National standards that are yet in place?
