BMC British Bouldering Championships 2018

The countdown has begun towards the best outdoor bouldering competition in the UK calendar!

The BMC British Bouldering Championships return centre stage to the heart of Sheffield city centre at Devonshire Green, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July.

Enter now and test your mettle alongside some of the UK's best boulderers in this senior-only, IFSC Boulder World Cup style event.

The pivotal event of every boulderers calendar since 1998, the British Bouldering Championships (BBCs) is organised by the BMC, forms the national championships in the UK, and counts towards selection for the Senior British Bouldering Team.

Anybody wishing to experience a World Cup style competition can compete, providing you're born no later than 2002. 

How to enter

  • Online entry closes Monday 2 July at 5pm.
  • All competitors must be a BMC, Mountaineering Scotland or MCI member.
  • Parental consent must be given for any competitor aged under 18 years on the day of the event – the parental consent form can be downloaded in the entry process.
  • All applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their application. They will then receive a further email containing full event information two days before the event.

BBCs Competition format

Qualification round with five boulders for each category: five mins on, Five mins off.

Semi-Final round with four boulders for each category: five mins on, Five mins off.

Final round with four boulders for each category: four mins.

Qualification and Semi-Final rounds will be climbed onsight, and there will be an observation period for the Final round with isolation used throughout.

Competition timings

Saturday 7 July

Males and females will climb in single groups and starting order for qualification will be derived from the 2017 BBC rankings and then at random (if you did not compete last year) and will be posted online on Friday evening.

1000: Male & Female registration/isolation opens
1100: Male & Female registration/isolation closes
1130: Male & Female qualification begins: 5 blocs – 5min on, 5 min off
1600: Male & Female qualification finishes

Sunday 8 July

0900: Isolation for semi-finalists opens
1000: Isolation for semi-finalists closes
1330: Semi Final begins: 4 blocs – 5 min on, 5 min off
1245: Semi Final Finishes

1515: Isolation opens
1615: Isolation closes
1720: Presentation of finalists and observation period
1730: Final begins: 4 blocs, 4mins
1930: Final finishes
1945: Prize giving
