Bouldering world cup results

More impressive results from the British Bouldering team at the IFSC bouldering world cup held in Brno, the Czech Republic over the weekend. The event was well attended with hundreds of spectators.

Rising British star, Dave Barrans from Manchester, narrowly missed getting into the final. After having some disappointing results in the middle of the world cup season due to an ankle injury, Dave has proved himself to be an international force. He has come back to form for the final event of the year and gained his best ever result of 8th place.

Dave said he is very optimistic about next years season and feels he has learnt a lot from his two years of international competing. This year even though he was injured, he managed to compete in all but one event. He is taking a well earned rest now and will start training hard after Christmas.

Dave would like to thank the Manchester Climbing Centre for their continued support of his competition success.

In the men's event Dmitry Sharafutdinov (RUS) was first with Killan Fischhuber (AUT) second and Stephane Julien third. With Gaz Parry on form as ever, just behind Dave in 9th place and Mark Croxall 19th and Rod MacKenzie 21st.  Overall, Killan Fischhuber took the word cup with Sharafutdinov second and Julien third.

In the women's event Juliette Danion (FRA) beat off close challenges from Anna Stonr (AUT) and Olga Shalagina (UKR) to win the world cup for France. Britain's Audrey Seguy came 32nd after sustaining a back injury during the comp and had to pull out, which was very disappointing. Our other female entrant, Diane Merrick was competing in her first ever World Cup and came 34th. She enjoyed the event and feels she gained valuable experience from competing. The good news is she doesn't feel the problems were too hard, she just needs to be a more savvy competitor.

Roll on next year for our bouldering team.
