Lead and boulder events in this popular series took place in the London area last weekend.
The Lead event was on the Friday at the White Spider in Kingston and the Bouldering event was at the Arch in Bermondsey on Sunday.
Both events saw some fantastic climbing in what were very hot, sweaty and tiring conditions. How some of the greasy slopers where held, we are not sure, but the talent displayed at both events this weekend was fantastic.
The lead event on Friday was held on the relatively short walls of the White Spider, meaning that the routes were short and sharp and packed a real bouldery punch. The qualifiers produced really determined efforts from those that made the finals, with everyone giving it maximum effort in the heat.
The finals extended up into the large competition roof, which goes horzontal for 5m, so at the end of a long tiring day, this proved particularly taxing for the older categories, but at least the holds weren't slopers!

On the Sunday after a day of rest for the climbers competing in both events, we moved to the Arch just south of the River Thames in the heart of London. Again temperatures were very high inside the wall as over 100 competitors all tried their 8 qualifying blocs, with 6 going through to the final.
As the temperature rose in isolation at the back of the arch, so did the atmosphere as the finals started for the two youngest categories. There were some deterimined battles with some of the final blocs, with competitors coming off the problems looking like they had been wrestling tigers for 4 minutes!
There was a great display from the older more experienced competitors showing the crowd how it is done, and some great talent showing through from the younger categories.
At the end of the day we crowned the winners on the day and because this was the last round in the 2014 British Junior Bouldering Championships - the winners in each of the 8 categories in the overall series was announced as well.
Results of the on-the-day competition and the series (including the two earlier competitions) can be found here.
Thanks to both White Spider Climbing and the Arch Climbing Wall for hosting the events, and to the BMC's competition sponsors - DMM, Mammut and Entre-Prises UK.
