YHA Festival Of Walking Returns

Get Walking With The BMC and YHA Festival Of Walking

We have partnered with YHA (England and Wales) to support the Festival of Walking as it returns this autumn. With six weeks of events and offers from 3 September to 19 October, the festival is aimed at encouraging as many people as possible to discover the health and wellbeing benefits of walking - and it's free to get involved!

With more than 180 routes ranging in length from easy one milers to challenging 20 mile walks, the BMC along with YHA and partners Cotswold Outdoors, Ordnance Survey and the Ramblers, aim to inspire new and seasoned walkers to get walking as part of the festival.

BMC volunteer guides will lead a series of social group walks, as well as providing advice and guidance to support new and aspiring hill walkers to get out into the hills. All routes will start from YHA hostels across England and Wales, and we’re also rolling out additional BMC Hills 2 Oceans litter picking hubs to over 50 YHA hostels across the country so that even more visitors have the opportunity to help remove litter and plastic from our hills, mountains and crags so it doesn’t end up in our oceans!

Mariella Sullivan, Hill Walking and Volunteers Co-ordinator at the BMC said: “The BMC is proud to once again partner with the YHA as the Festival of Walking returns after a hugely successful inaugural event in 2022. At a time when thousands more people are embracing hill and mountain walking, we welcome the opportunity to support and guide people across the country as they discover the health and wellbeing benefits of walking, while encouraging them to care for the hills and trails we love, and clean up along the way.”
