Sport England - building the foundations of sporting success

Sport England wants leading individuals in community sport to consider applying to join its Board.

Sport England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport are seeking to recruit up to five new Board members, strengthening the team that oversees Sport England’s performance as it works to create a world-leading community sport system. These vacancies provide an opportunity for a suitably experienced member of the mountaineering world to play an influential role in the development of community sport in England.

Richard Lewis, Sport England’s Chair said; “We want to hear from strong candidates who combine a passion for sport with expertise in the grassroots game or finance and governance; people who can make a contribution to Sport England’s drive to deliver a lasting sporting legacy.”

Primarily focused on strategy, governance, finance and oversight of delivery, the Board has overall responsibility for Sport England’s performance, committing on average two days per month and meeting seven times a year, generally in London. A remuneration allowance of £218 per day is offered and travel expenses will be reimbursed. The appointments will be for a period of up to three years and are expected to start in May 2010.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Experience of leadership at either executive or non-executive level
  • Understanding of the public, voluntary and private sectors
  • The skills and experience to influence decision-making at Board level
  • A passion for community sport and a commitment to promoting diversity and equality.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, 4 March.

For more information about the vacancies and the application procedure visit the public appointments section of the DCMS website

Anyone who feels they would make a strong candidate and is considering an application is welcome to contact BMC CEO Dave Turnbull to discuss their application.
