Peak bypass public inquiry

Posted by Guy Keating on 27/06/2007
Public Inquiry, Stalybridge Town Hall.

The public inquiry into the proposed bypass around Mottram and Tintwistle started today with dissatisfaction from the public and opposition parties at the way proceedings were being handled.

The PA was so bad it was difficult to hear anything being discussed, and it also appears the Highways Agency and Tameside Council (both in favour of the new road) have failed to satisfy all their statutory requirements by submitted lengthy documents at a late stage. Opponents of the scheme argued this was prejudicial to the whole inquiry process and called for an adjournment. The Inspector seemed inclined to agree with this, and after reconvening on Tuesday July 3rd to hear opening submissions, the inquiry will be adjourned until 10am Tuesday Sept. 4th.
