Following the successes of recent Peak District ‘litter-picks’, the BMC has a similar event (slightly larger scale this time!) planned for South Pembroke’s most atmospheric crag – Huntsman’s Leap.

Climbers may have noticed a considerable pile of rubbish has accumulated in the back of the Leap - probably originated from a container spillage during a storm. Both the MoD and the Park Authority are aware of the issue, and Charles Matheson (PNPA Recreation Management Officer) is working on the liaison and logistics of removing the huge pile, composed of a compacted container, mangled washing machines, and various other bits of rope and polystyrene. Given the nature of the Leap, the junk involved, and the consent required for work on MoD land, the overall job will be quite a challenge, and removal may require a crane or even a helicopter! The BMC will be working with MoD/PNPA on this, and may require volunteer climbers (sometime in August) to help with removing some of the smaller bits of detritus. Watch this space.
