Cioch Direct: unstable rock warning

Skye Mountain Rescue Association are recommending that climbers avoid Cioch Direct on the Sron Na Ciche, following rockfalls in late May.

The popular climb Cioch Direct has suffered recent rockfalls. On the 31st May, one climber died and two others were seriously injured on the route.

Climbers should be aware that the start of the third pitch is still in a very unstable condition and further rockfalls are imminent.

In conjunction with Northern Constabulary (01478 612888), Skye MRT are issuing a warning that Cioch Direct should be regarded as a no-go area until the large blocks have been removed.

Update 06/07/2011: Skye MRT report that most of the loose rock has now been removed. Climbers should still use caution.

New look Glen Brittle hut welcomes next generation over the sea to Skye

At the south-west base of the Cuillin Ridge stands the Glen Brittle hut, a whitewashed haven that has been welcoming Skye climbers for the last fifty years.
