Bulgarian climbing meet invitation

Posted by on 06/06/2006

The BMC has received an invitation to send climbers to the climbing meet of the Federation of Bulgarian Alpine clubs. If you would like to be considered, read on.

The Fifth Rock-Climbing Meeting in the limestone area in the outskirts of the town of Vratsa, Bulgaria will take place from 20th to 24th September 2006. The Vratsa climbing area is situated on 120 km north of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. The rocks are of differing heights (maximum about 400m) and routes are 1 to 10 pitches long. There are routes for experienced climbers and also for beginners. Some routes are bolted and others are trad climbs. Presentations and discussions will be held throughout the meet. Participants are encouraged to show films and slide shows to exchange information about their own climbing areas, such as methods of training and organisation of activities in their own country, and protection of mountains and climbing routes. The Federation of Bulgarian Alpine Clubs will cover the costs of accommodation and local travel expenses for two British climbers. Additional participants pay a fee of 50 Euros for these services. All participants will need to arrange and pay for their own travel to Bulgaria. Meal costs are approximately 10 Euros per day. If you are interested in attending the meet, contact Nick Colton for more information and an application form on 0161 438 3305 or email nick@thebmc.co.uk. The application deadline is 1 September 2006.
