Arc’teryx Big Mountain Weekend 2019

Posted by Emma Travers on 22/02/2019

The Arc’teryx Big Mountain Weekend will be taking place from the 3rd - 5th May at the Sticklebarn in the beautiful Langdale Valley, Lake District. The aim of the event is to educate, share and improve skills necessary for enjoying the mountains and crags safely.

What does the weekend actually involve?

The weekend is based around a series of clinics, the majority run by British Mountain Guides from the International School of Mountaineering. These clinics range from rock climbing to wild swimming and there is something for everyone, from complete beginners to advanced. Even better, everyone who participates in a clinic will also get a free BBQ ticket on the Saturday evening.

“Events like the Big Mountain Weekend are so important for our climbing community. They are are great way to meet new people, discover new areas and get outdoors. Not only that, they also educate, helping climbers to build and develop their skill set which leads to safe crags for all of us.”

Mina Leslie-Wujastyk, Arc’teryx athlete

What clinics could I do as a beginner?

There are a number of mountain based clinics over the weekend suitable for beginners. These include:

  • Rock Climbing for Beginners
  • Scrambling
  • Tenaya Introduction to Outdoor Bouldering
  • Nikwax Navigation
  • Yoga
  • Trail Running Development

Which clinics could I take part in if I want to develop and advance my mountain skills?

There is a wide variety of clinics available for those looking to progress and advance their current knowledge. These include:

  • Wild Swimming
  • Scrambling
  • Building Safe Anchors and Setting up Top Ropes

What else is going on over the weekend that I can take part in for free?

On Saturday evening you can join us for live music on the Sticklebarn terrace and Sunday evening for the BMC Adventure Film Evening in the hayloft at the Sticklebarn.

The Langdale Climbing Challenge will also be running for the second year over this weekend only. Come along to the Sticklebarn and pick up one of the suggested climbing routes cards for the Langdale Valley. You have all weekend to tick off as many routes as you can or even better try one of the mountain link ups. Every person that participates over the weekend will receive a FREE Lakeland Revival special edition DMM Phantom wire gate carabiner.

Music and food down at basecamp in the Sticklebarn gardens

There will also be demo gear, freebies and expert advice from Arc’teryx, DMM, Tenaya, Nikwax and Beta Climbing all weekend so come along and get involved. The weekend also launches the Arc’teryx Lakeland Revival.
