New facility in Hemel Hempstead - XC!

Posted by Damon Clark - SE area climbing wall rep on 31/05/2011

The opening of XC is eagerly awaited by climbers, skateboarders and BMK enthusiasts from all over the UK and their feedback and input to the project has been invaluable! XC is due to open at Jarman Park in July 2011 and will be the only centre of its kind in the UK

In addition to the skatepark which will house the only indoor concrete pool and bowl complex in the UK there will be a 60 x 15metre climbing wall, the longest organic indoor caving facility in Europe, plus a challenging high ropes course.

The wall has been built by Entre-Prises and provides approximately 880m² of climbing consisting of four very distinct climbing areas and using a combination of Lightwave, Cristalithe and Mozaik climbing systems. The climbing areas will appeal to a broad spectrum of climbing wall users from complete novice through to advanced and competition levels.

The cave will comprise 152 linear metres of realistic cave passageways and includes 3 chambers. A separate cavern runs through the cave leads to the high ropes course, which is located above the climbing zone.
