Gideon Quarries

Llanberis Slate

Encompassing The Mancer, Film Set, The Land That God Forgot and Gideon Quarries. Home of the first slate route - a bit of a backwater now but still contains a number of worthwhile routes.

Crag information

County Gwynedd Access Status: Restrictions/ Sensitive Access
Importance: Regional CRoW Land: No
Ownership: Local Authority No. of Routes: 50

There have been serious problems here in the past but access is now less problematic providing climbers keep a low profile. The quarries are owned by Gwynedd Council who offically do not allow access due to public safety reasons - there are high fences and signs prohibiting access, but there have not been any reports of access problems for many years.

Restrictions apply from 1 March - 30 June.
Reason: Nesting Birds

2015 - Due to nesting Peregrines and Choughs (both species have legal protection under the Wildlife & Countryside Act),  climbing in the Gideon Quarry (all routes) is restricted from March 1st until the end of June.
