Blackwell Dale

Peak Limestone

A small handful of hard sport routes and some good quality hard bouldering. Some literally roadside climbing, as well as more peaceful areas away from the road.

IMPORTANT NOTE. THE BANNED STATUS ONLY APPLIES TO THE WEST SIDE OF THE DALE. Access remains fine on the east/roadside buttresses.

Crag information
Climbing Area: Peak District Rock Type: Limestone
Importance: Regional CRoW Land: No
Ownership: Unknown No. of Routes: 104
Within National Park: Yes Year Developed:
Grid Reference: SK132727

In June 2022 signage was installed by the landowner indicating that they do not wish crags on the west side of the dale (Griff's, Black & Deckout, etc.) to be climbed on.

Negotiations to secure access have failed to reach a positive outcome. As such climbers should be aware that the owner does not permit access to west/lower Blackwell Dale. Any climber choosing to visit therfore does so against the wishes of the landowner and should politely leave without complaint if asked to do so.

Parking and Approach

Two fairly large laybys. One below Beginner's Wall, one lierally under Sean's Roof.
