Chwarel Manod

Snowdonia

A nice crag within easy walking distance of Manod village. There is a mixture of small buttresses, that offers some sport, trad and bouldering.

Access is permitted by the land owner, however he doesnt want climbers accessing the crag through the yard. Park on the road near the haulage yard, opposite the cemetery, walk along the road back towards Blaenau for about 200m to a white house on the right hand side (no10) follow the side lane towards the crag and over the stile to access the quarry.

Area information

A wide range of cliffs - mainly traditional and multi pitch inc. the popular Llanberis Pass, Idwal Slabs, Clogwyn du'r Arddu and Cwm Silyn cliffs, but also outlying outcrops such as Carreg Alltrem. Many crags are on CROW access land - but not all especially some of the outcrops which lie on private enclosed land. Most of central Snowdonia is both designated an SSSI and also is an European Special Area of Conservation on account of the upland habitat and associated geology and plants found here.
